Some days just don't work

Week 3

Right, It’s been a busy week, let’s get straight into it…

Week 3 of this newsletter and I’ve already missed a Wednesday. Some would argue that’s a failure, and in some aspects it is…

If the goal is hitting the schedule

The goal actually is: Share insightful and useful tips, tricks and advice to those wanting to quit their job to work for themselves, or grow an existing online business.

I write these emails at 9am Wednesday morning to send at 10. Why? Because I like to share things that I’ve come across during the week and keep this email ‘live’ and in tune with reality.

I HATE the idea of batching up 26 emails, scheduling them weekly for the next 6 months and calling it done.

Anyone with access to ChatGPT could automate that drivel, but that defeats the object of this newsletter.

Yesterday when I sat down to write, my mind just didn’t work. I’d even made notes through the week of things I felt important, yet for some reason I couldn’t put the pieces together.

Which ties into you. Some days, just suck. Some days the world just doesn’t want you to complete X task. So don’t. Unless it’s something that will have a SIGNIFICANT impact on the business, put it away for tomorrow.

It’s that easy.

Forcing work sometimes needs to be done, sure. But I’m a big believer that it’s impossible to run at 10/10 at all times. Some days suck, some days are exceptional, and some days are just another one.

If you’re working on a project, business or even YouTube channel, just remember everyone has this mixed bag of days.

That’s just human.

But when a good one does crop up, make sure you squeeze all the juice out of it and finish that day exhausted. You’ll feel FANTASTIC, the business will love you for it and you’ve made one large step closer to the goal, at no extra cost. These are the days that make up for the bad ones.

Also, bare in mind the importance of the task. Below is a really simple way to evaluate. Based loosely on the 80:20 principle. If you don’t know what the 80:20 principle is, search it up, its remarkably powerful.

Some tasks need to be complete, with no standards to be met (75%)

Some tasks need to be done well (20%)

Some tasks need to be done incredibly well (>5%)

Don’t waste time struggling to complete tasks well that don’t require it and save this time for the ones that do.

Summary:

So don’t get yourself down if you can’t do something well, don’t force crappy work, and don’t worry about a 1 day delay in a 10 year journey. That’s normal.

Anyway, that’s all for now, it’s time to get back to work,

John
